2014 was a big year for The Here and Now Project. By hosting our first two premier events, the SCI Survivors and Supporters Meet Up as well as the SCIAW Green Lake Walk and Roll After Party, we were able to connect hundreds of people whose lives have been affected by paralysis. From those tremendous experiences, we learned two things. First, that there is a tangible need for a social support network in the Washington area – not just for paralysis survivors, but their friends and families as well. The second thing we learned is that two gatherings per year are not nearly enough; the demand for a regular fellowship is high.
For 2015 we are looking to take things to the next level. By creating a rotating calendar of regularly scheduled Here and Now meetings in the greater Puget Sound area, SCI survivors and their loved ones won’t have to wait months to catch up with old friends, and the newly injured and their families will have the opportunity for some much-needed support. We threw an impromptu meeting together last Wednesday at the Puyallup Public Library to kick ideas around and have another meeting room reserved for Wednesday, February 25 from 6-9 PM (directions) for all who are interested. We also have a handful of people from other areas around Western Washington actively searching for meeting spaces, so stay tuned to our Facebook page for news of a meeting near you!!
